Scoliosis
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic
Scoliosis is defined as an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, i.e., viewed from the back, a spine without scoliosis is straight while a scoliotic spine will have one or more curves to each side, and the curve may be "C" or "S" shaped.

Watch out for these signs:

- Shoulders with different heights

- Shoulder blade more prominent than another

- Asymmetry of the waist

- Inclination of the torso to one side

With or without a vest, Physical Therapy is essential to prevent the progression of scoliosis. During sessions one aims to:

- Teaching correct postures,

- Joint mobilization exercises,

- Muscle strengthening exercises,

- Balance and flexibility training

It is important to note that scoliosis treatment is mostly active, and that exercise plays an important role in correcting the altered movement patterns and thus allowing the body to maintain the correction effectively over time.

In the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic of the Tavira Humanitarian Center of the CVP we have a team of Physical Therapists at your disposal to help you with your case.
